Related Disorders

  • Suspected OBSTRUCTIVE or CENTRAL sleep apnea
  • SNORING: 3 to 6 months history of snoring, especially if associated with abnormal breathing patterns at night or shortness of breath
  • FATIGUE & DAYTIME SLEEPINESS: Unexplained daytime fatigue, light headedness or urge to nap, especially while driving or at work
  • INSOMNIA: Sleep onset and Maintenance Insomnia is a common symptom in up to 50% of clients with Sleep Apnea
  • Morning HEADACHES
  • IRRITABILITY
  • Night time SWEATING & RACING HEART BEAT
  • Abnormal BEHAVIOUR during sleep
  • LEG CRAMPS or uncontrollable urge to move legs
  • DIABETES: Type 2 Diabetes patients have an 80% chance of having Sleep Apnea, which has a significant impact on fasting blood sugar levels
  • HYPERTENSION: 40-60% of patients with Essential Hypertension have OSA. Middle-aged people with a recent onset of Hypertension should be screened for Sleep Apnea
  • WAIST CIRCUMFERENCE: Waist circumference is a common measure used to assess abdominal fat content. The presence of excess body fat in the abdomen, when out of proportion to total body fat, is considered an independent predictor. Undesirable waist circumference differs for men and women. Men are at risks that have a waist measurement greater than 40 inches (102 cm) Women are at risk that have a waist measurement greater than 35 inches (88 cm) NOTE: If a person has short stature (under 5 feet in height) or has BMI of 35 or above, waist circumference used for the general population may not apply.
  • OBESITY: 60% of Sleep Apnea patients have a BMI of 30 or greater. A neck size of 16.5” and a BMI of 30 are highly indicative of Sleep Apnea. A history of struggle to lose weight greater than 6 months may be related to underlying Sleep Apnea.
  • DEPRESSION: Treatment resistant depressive symptoms for 3-6 months are frequently complicated by Sleep Apnea in up to 60% of cases.
  • FIBROMYALGIA: A history of Fibromyalgia, especially if associated with snoring or partial response to treatment for Fibromyalgia, can increase the risk and likelihood of Sleep Apnea.
  • CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS: Coronary Artery Disease, history of Stroke, significantly increases the risks and likelihood of Sleep Apnea.
